STATEMENT OF SUPPORT
The Rt Hon Lord MacGregor of Pulham Market OBE PC FKC
I strongly support the objections of the Tivetshall Action Group to the proposal for a wind farm on the outskirts of Tivetshall.
By way of background, I am very sceptical about the value and cost effectiveness of the financial and other support now being given to small onshore wind farm proposals as compared to other much more effective means of achieving our climate change objectives (including large and significant offshore wind farm projects). I realise that this is not a matter for the planning application, but it does for me reinforce the need to look very critically at the environmental and other impacts of these small onshore proposals, which will add so little to our energy requirements compared with the alternatives.
But what is small-scale in relation to energy needs can be very large-scale in relation to the impact on local communities. The Tivetshall proposal is one such.
I made known my objections to the proposal to South Norfolk District Council on earlier occasions.
I believe that the site is wholly inappropriate for a wind farm project of six wind turbines, on visual, environmental and many other grounds.
Moreover, it has to be seen in the context of the close by Pulham Market application which would add at least an extra three turbines, devastating a most attractive and environmentally sensitive part of South Norfolk.
